Aklan, Boracay Island declared community quarantine area

KALIBO, Aklan- — The Aklan multi-sectoral Provincial Task Force against COVID-19, led by Gov. Florencio T. Miraflores, has taken and adopted pro-active measures to counter the likely destructive onslaught of the pandemic in this province.

In an emergency meeting held over the weekend at the provincial capitol here, attended by Kalibo Bishop Jose Corazon Tala-oc and the task force members members, composed of heads of government agencies and non-government institutions, the group adopted measures and guidelines similar to what President Duterte issued for National Capital Region.

Bishop Tala-oc circulated during the meeting copies of the “Oratio Imperata” prayer for Aklanons and visitors to pray.

Under the guidelines adopted, Aklan province has been declared a community quarantine area. People arriving in Aklan, particularly in Boracay island, from Metro Manila and abroad will have to subject themselves to the required 14-day quarantine.

Gov. Miraflores said the Aklan provincial government has funds to buy face masks and other protective equipment for health workers but there are no adequate supply in the province. He has warned hoarders of masks, alcohol, other basic and vital commodities that they will be apprehended and penalized according if found guilty of hoarding.

As part of the measures taken, Aklan’s two international airports – Kalibo and Caticlan – will be closed for unauthorized domestic and international flights. (Johnny Dayang)
