At least nine foreign experts will share experiences on, and fresh insights into the global retailing landscape at the 25th National Retail Conference and Stores Asia Expo (NRCE) 2018 on August 9-10 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
NRCE 2018 overall chairman Frederick Go said the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) Board of Directors carefully picked the speakers in this year’s edition of the retail conference, to make sure the attendees will fully grasp the message of the theme “Reinventing Retail.”
“This is a call to action for us in the retail industry. We are aware of the need to innovate further amid the digital disruption and the ever-changing global retail landscape,” added Go, the PRA vice chairman and president of Robinsons Land.
Wijnand Jongen, founder and CEO of the Dutch e-commerce association Thuiswinkel.org, will lead the Day 1 speakers, He will keynote the start of plenary sessions.
Jongen, is a globally recognized author, futurist and authority on retail and e-commerce. He is co-founder and chairman of the Executive Committee of E-commerce Europe, the European e-commerce umbrella organization with over 75,000 members. He also authored the bestselling book “The End of Online Shopping: the future of retail in a world that is always connected.” The book has been translated into several languages including Chinese. Other editions and translations, including a special English edition for South-East Asia are in preparation.
Day 2 of the conference will feature two foreign speakers — Central Pattana (Thailand) Senior Executive Vice President Wallaya Chirathivat (for confirmation); and Forum for International Retail Association Executives ( FIRAE ) Chairman Massimo Volpe.
Volpe who served as POPAI Italy director for eight years, has been the European development director of POPAI Europe since 2012, and POPAI Global vice president since 2014. He is also the current general manager of Retail Institute Italy. In late 2015 he started Global Retail Alliance (GRA) and became chairman of FIRAE , a network of 45 associations of retailers from 20 different countries.
To speak on the topic “Key Global Megatrends: Putting the Consumer at the Heart of Business” is Jocelyn Cheung, senior analyst at Euromonitor International (Singapore). She manages a team of in-country analysts across Asia, with a keen focus on Southeast Asia markets. She has strong research interests in company strategies, consumer behaviour and social culture.
Jane Ng, executive director of Kantar Millwardbrown , will discuss “Growing up and Staying Young: Achieving brand growth and resilience through meaningful disruptions.” She has over 14 years of research experience, including two years with The Coca-Cola Company where she worked closely with the brand and commercials teams integrating consumer, trade & shopper insights into brand growth strategies.
Beijing Bingobox Technology founder and CEO Chilam Chen will share his insights on “Consumer and Retail Trends.” A serial entrepreneur with more than eight years of IT exposure, he also has over seven years of marketing management experience. BingoBox is the first scalable automated convenient store in the world. It gives people a new shopping channel with much higher efficiency which is perceived to become a significant part of future retail scenarios.
Santanu Dutt, head of Solutions Architecture for Malaysia and the Philippines, will discuss “Innovations at Amazon.” He manages and grows the Solutions Architecture teams across ASEAN, which empower businesses from startup to their transition to the AWS Cloud.
TaskUs Senior Vice President for Southeast Asia Robert Hayes will give a presentation on the topic “Call to Action/Deliver the world’s best experiences.” He is responsible for the sustained growth of employee base and increased employee net promoter score of 66%, at par with Apple, Lego, Disney and Harley Davidson quarter on quarter.
Xin Yi Wong, Sustainability Manager at H&M (Singapore), will demonstrate that “Fashion can be sustainable, and sustainability can be fashionable.” Previously with H&M’s Marketing and Communications department, Xin Yi has years of experience communicating and engaging customers in sustainability.
“Dare to dream!” will be discussed by Dreambig World (Spain) CEO Juan de Lascurain, a designer from Mexico. He has background in sports having competed in tennis since age 10, and played collegiate tennis in the US. In 2016 he started partnering with tourist destinations, malls and airports to launch the Dreambig retail experience. Today he has shops at a hotel in New York, Princess Hotel in Acapulco and Burj Khalifa in Dubai, with more locations coming up.
The annual NRCE is acknowledged as the biggest and most important retail event in the Philippines.
