The Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) inaugurated its Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IP-TBM) office on March 26, 2019 at the Livestock Innovations and Biotechnology Complex, PCC National Headquarters and Gene Pool, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.
The inauguration of the IP-TBM office was held as part of PCC’s 26th anniversary, which adopted the theme, “Empowering Carapreneurs: Our purpose in focus.”
A joint collaboration between the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) and PCC, the initiative is one of the activities under the “Establishment of the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Development Operation in the PCC” project which started in July 2018.
Dr. Eufrocina P. Atabay of PCC Muñoz leads the project.
The unveiling of the first IP-TBM marker of the 16 agencies implementing DOST-PCAARRDS’s IP-TBM (Batch 2) program was also done during the inauguration.
Among other objectives, the IP-TBM program aims to strengthen the capacities of intellectual property and technology business management operations of selected state universities and colleges (SUCs) and research and development institutes (RDIs).
“I view this IP-TBM office as a tangible symbol of PCC’s continuous commitment in its pursuit to protect its intellectual properties and soon, the commercialization of its technologies,” said DOST-PCAARRD Acting Deputy Executive Director for R&D Dr. Edwin C. Villar in his message read by Dr. Lilian G. Bondoc.
“PCAARRD recognizes that Intellectual Property Management is the next game-changer in the country’s arena of AANR R&D and technology transfer. IP rights do not only protect the inventions. It can also provide market protection to innovators, generate income arising from commercialization, make products available at a lower cost, create jobs along the commercialization process, and generate taxes from companies and employees,” added Dr. Bondoc.
PCC’s Executive Director Dr. Arnel N. del Barrio, Deputy Executive Director Dr. Caro B. Salces, and R&D Division Chief Dr. Anabelle S. Sarabia were also present during the event. (Philippine Press Club, Inc. (PPCI))
