Dr. Edwin C. Villar, Deputy Executive Director for Research and Development of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), was selected as the Honoree for the 2019 Lecture Series of the Philippine Society of Animal Science (PSAS) at Isabela State University (ISU).

Held on April 11, 2019 with the theme, “Linking S&T with Industry for Improved Animal Productivity and Product Quality,” the lecture series pays tribute to outstanding professionals in the field of Animal Science in the Philippines.

Named as this year’s Honoree, Dr. Villar was recognized for his active leadership and support to livestock and poultry S&T development projects. The projects became instrumental in improving the lives of rural farmers and dwellers through better farm productivity and product quality.

Dr. Villar also received the Outstanding Professional in Animal Science Community Service Award in 2005 and the PSAS Distinguished Fellow Award in 2009.

Before serving as the Deputy Executive Director for R&D of DOST-PCAARRD, Dr. Villar was the Director of the Livestock Research Division of the Council for 15 years. He also served as PSAS President in 2002.

At present, Dr. Villar remains steadfast in his advocacy to promote viable R&D interventions. He also supports strong and direct linkage between the knowledge and technologies produced to its field application. This is to deliver fast and efficient aid to improve not only the country’s Animal Industry, but the whole AANR Sector.

PSAS, according to their official website, is a professional non-profit organization founded in 1963. It spearheads annual convention, lecture series, and outreach programs in animal science and related disciplines in support to the livestock and poultry industry of the country.

The organization is composed of animal scientists, veterinarians, animal nutritionists, researchers, academe, agricultural extension providers, agricultural economists, and other expertise-related professionals.

An affiliate member of the Philippine Biosafety and Biosecurity Association (PhBBA), the Philippine Association of Agriculturists (PAA), and the Asian-Australian Association of Production Societies (AAAP), the organization is also behind the Philippine Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (EZG, Philippine Press Club, Inc.
