Department of Science and Technology – National Capital Region held the biggest science and technology fair in Pasig City through its Regional Science and Technology Week Celebration on October 1-3, 2019 at the Rizal High School in Dr. Sixto Antonio Avenue, Pasay City for free.
Pasig City belongs to the Regional Science and Technology Week PAMAMARISAN Cluster which includes Mandaluyong, Marikina and San Juan.
The event aimed at bringing science and technology closer to the people, has something for everyone: from interactive displays and experiments to guide tours to the Science Centrum, Planetarium and the Solar Observatory. Guests can also hop aboard DOST’s Explorer Bus and try out the different learning modules for elementary and high school students.
The Techno Bazaar had products from DOST-assisted companies from Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina and San Juan, for entrepreneurs and those who are looking for business ideas. There was also the free seminar on Packaging Innovations and Labeling Regulations for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and free technical consultations from DOST’s experts.
There had been competitions to choose from like Water Rocket Launching competition, ScienceQueST, the Sineng Siyensya poster making contest and Batang Emergency Response Team Science Youth Awareness (BERT Scie-YA) contest to test skills and wits against friends, classmates and win exciting prizes.
For those who want to be prepared for any emergency, Pasig City’s Rescue Emergency and Disaster (RED) Training Center gave a tour of its facilities for earthquake Simulation, Typoon Simulation, Firefighting and First Aid Training, Rescue and Escape Section, Smoke Maze, and Fire and Rescue.
Mr. Dominico C. Idonon, Division Superintendent, Pasig City welcomed everybody in the Rizal High School Gymnasium Center Stage.
Usec. Brenda L. Nazareth-Manzano, Undersecretary for Regional Operations, DOST delivered the opening message. Dir. Jose B. Patalinjud III, Regional Director, DOST-NCR introduced keynote speaker Hon. Fortunato T. de la Pena.
After the keynote message of the DOST Secretary came the exciting part of the occasion, the simple contest on something about science and technology giving a cash prize of P1,000 to students with correct answers. Indeed, the shout, laughter, joy and excitement of contestants and audience added life to the affair.
Another exciting part was the cheers from the millennial when Hon. Victor Ma. Regis “Vico” N. Sotto, Mayor, Pasig City was called to give message from the host LGU.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto with the help of DOST-Philippines hopes to foster a culture of innovation among Pasiguenos.
In his message, Mayor Sotto expressed his appreciation and delight as he looked at the booths displaying DOST’s innovations and technologies.
“Kanina lang po, galling pong entrance hanggang sa upuan ko, ang dami kong nakitang mga inobasyon at mga pwede nating ipakilala dito sa Lungsod ng Pasig. Excited po ako sa mga pwede nating gawin,” said Mayor Sotto. He was very thankful that Pasig was chosen to be the venue of this very important event.
“I hope na hindi lang ito (RSTW) mananatiling isang parang show isang fair lamang, kundi sana maging isang instrument para yong mga magaaral na maging interesado muli sa larangan ng Agham at teknolohiya.
On the same occasion, DOST-NCR turned over to the Local Government Unit of Pasig City a Biotek-M Dengue Aqua kit, Cocopatch wound dressing and Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Stations (STARBOOKS).
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. was signed between Ms. Rina Lopez Bautista, Principal, Rizal High School and Dir. Jose B. Patalinjud III, Regional Director, DOST-NCR.
There was also the Recognition of Graduate Scholars with Honors from Pasig City and the Recognition of Partner Agencies: Plaque of Recognition for Partners – Dir. Malcon S. Gamma, Regional Director, DepEd-NCR and Dir. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco, President, Rizal Technological University; Plaque of Recognition for Host City – Mr. Gilbert O. Innocencio, Principal Rizal High School – Hon. Roman T. Romulo, Representative, Lone District, Pasig City and Hon. Victor Ma. Regis “Vico” N. Sotto, Mayor, Pasig City. (PPCI)
