The Department of Science and Technology – Calamba, Laguna (DOST-CALABARZON) celebrated its 2019 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) back to back with Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE) on September 25-27, 2019 at Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex, Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.
With the theme “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development,” DOST-CALABARZON showcased how the Department’s various programs and services contribute to the attainment of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Pena, LGU Sta. Rosa City Mayor Arlene B. Arcilla, and DOST-CALABARZON Regional Director Alexander R. Madrigal graced the opening ceremony.
Two projects were launched such as DOSTories: Mga Buhay na Pinaigting ng Siyensya at Teknolohiya”, a local cable TV program in partnership with the community Cable Vision Corporation and “TIKME (Teknolohiya at Inobasyon, Kaagapay ng Micro Enterprises) in CALABARZON,” a food expo giving spotlight to homegrown entrepreneurs provided with DOST assistance and technology.
There was also the ceremonial handover of Fiberglass Rescue Boat to our CEST (Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology) Inland Community Beneficiaries, Turnover of Nipanog and Lambanog Manuals to assisted LGUs in Quezon and Presentation of Macapuno Project’s Accomplishments.
The Best SETUP and CBP adopters of the five provinces in CALABARZON who have dedicated to improve their farms with DOST assistance were awarded together with the winners of the 4th R&D Competition organized by the Southern Tagalog Consortium for Industry and Energy Research and Development (STCIERD).
Through this celebration DOST-CALABARZON was able to showcase their accomplishments and efforts to help their stakeholders in the region.
The Technology Talk About Smart Governance that took place in the second day of the event highlighted this year’s celebration. This activity in cooperation with the LGU Sta. Rosa and DOST-PCIEERD, was in support to the Secretary’s banner program on technology promotion, adoption, and commercialization.
This aims to help Sta. Rosa City to become a SMART City and encourage other LGU in the region to pursue advancement in their locale.
The RSTW celebration this year coincide with RICE is conducted in support to Republic Act. No. 7459 known as the inventors and invention incentives Act of the Philippines.”
Out of the 75 entries submitted, 30 of them were qualified in the final round of the competition, final judging of the qualifiers was on September 25 who were awarded on September 27, on the closing ceremony. (PPCI)
