“The dedication, excellence, and integrity that each awardee demonstrated have set a benchmark for the rest of the country’s civil servants to admire and emulate”, the President added.

Previously at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva (Salon International Des Inventions Geneve) held in Geneva, Switzerland on April 11-15, 2018, Dr. Destura won a Gold Medal for his Biotek-M Dengue Aqua Kit that can diagnose dengue within an hour at a more affordable cost.

Also early this year, the Technology Application Institute (TAPI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) awarded the Gawad DAGISIK or Dakilang AmbaG sa Imbensiyon at SIyensiyang pang-Kalusugan also to Dr. Destura’s Biotek-M during its 32nd anniversary celebration at the PICC last January 25, 2019.

On 27 April 2018, during the 1013th (18-4B) Meeting of the NRCP Governing Board (GB) held at the National Institute of Physics, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City, NRCP issued the statement below in support to the government’s efforts on immunization which originated from the members of NRCP Division III (Medical Sciences) chaired by Dr. Destura.

“We at the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) are alarmed that the controversy involving the use of Dengvaxia as an anti-dengue vaccine has led to substantial decrease in vaccination rates in other immunization programs of the country.

Scientific evidence has clearly demonstrated that vaccines have dramatically eradicated smallpox and polio and have greatly reduced child mortality in the Philippines and in many other parts of the world.

The NRCP stands by the government efforts to sustain its immunization programs as we strongly urge the public to pay attention to the knowledge claim of scientists on the beneficial effects of immunization”.  (Jenny Leigh A. Daguioag)
