DICT installs free Wi-Fi in Zambales schools, hospitals

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has recently provided several free wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) hotspots in Zambales as part of its “Free Wi-Fi For All” program.

DICT said it has installed 12 operational sites in yje province located in schools, hospitals, and quarantine facilities such as in the President Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital, Masinloc Isolation Facility, Candelaria District Hospital, San Marcelino District Hospital, and Kolehiyo ng Subic.

DICT Secretary Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan II said the have chosen Zambales as a showcase of DICT’s information and communications technology (ICT) initiatives beginning with providing improved internet access in schools for their online and blended learning program.

Honasan said the Zambales installations were the result of a memorandum of agreement between the province and DICT which he and Zambales Gov. Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. signed last January.

As of August 19, Honasan said, a total of 4,758 free Wi-Fi access points have already been installed nationwide. More such Wi-Fi facilities will be set up in public places and schools, as well as government hospitals, rural health units, and quarantine facilities. (With PNA)
