3 Luzon dams prepare for ‘Ulysses’

News, Provincial

The Ambuklao, Binga, and Magat dams in Luzon have further released water as a precaution against structural problems that can arise if Typhoon Ulysses raises their water levels to dangerous elevations.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) hydrologist Rosalie Pagulayan said “such preemptive water release is in anticipation of rainfall ‘Ulysses’ may bring.”

Pagulayan said the spilling operations will ensure that water in the dams will remain at elevations that would not compromise the facilities’ structural integrity.

PAGASA weather forecaster Ezra Bulquerin said  Ulysses may bring moderate to heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday over Benguet province, where Ambuklao and Binga dams are located, as well as in Isabela which hosts Magat Dam.
