Cabanatuan City to open its own RT-PCR lab facility by April

Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija will start the operations of its 32-unit molecular laboratory facility by early April or late March this year to further intensify its response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

City Sangguniang Panlungsod presiding officer, Vice Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara said they expect the construction of the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratory facility at the MV Gallego Cabanatuan City General Hospital here to be completed by then. The P23-million locally funded project was officially started by Roche Philippines last December.

Nueva Ecija 3rd district Rep. Rosanna Vergara said the establishment of the facility, complete with refrigeration equipment’s, was hatched as part of Cabanatuan’s expanded targeted testing program under which, people who tested positive in the rapid antibody tests are immediately swabbed.

In coordination with Vergara’s office, the city government also conducts testing in various municipalities within the third congressional district.

The vice mayor said the LGU will extend testing services to residents of adjoining municipalities in the spirit of the local government code’s provision in cooperation among local government units (LGUs) and protection of both the people of this city and the people who come in and out here for trade, banking, and education purposes.

The vice mayor also assured Cabanatuan City has enough funds to procure vaccines but they are just being prudent in handling people’s money. He said they need to know more details, including the kind of vaccines, their efficacy, and prices. (PNA)
